Pharm Tobi Amokeodo:
Spirit: you are enough
Wouldn’t we all want to change some things about our physical selves? You know the color of our skin, arrangement of our teeth or the shape of our bodies. We, this young generation, are so obsessed with looking like the next person that we fail to see our own kind of beauty. One of the very worst uses of time might as well be flipping through pages of magazines hoping to one day look like the models we see in them. We all do that right? I will have to admit that I have wondered how some people ever get “liked” by other people judging by their looks, but the laws of attraction can quite be summed up in this clichĂ© saying: “one man`s food is another`s poison.
This is not saying that we do not deserve to live our lives the best way possible. Sure, we all need to make adjustments (exercise, eat right, worry less and so on) but while we are at it, I think we should not use others as our yardsticks. I always say to myself, “these guys (referring to actors in Tyler Perry movies who always seem to have abs and square shoulders, laughs) are not a part of my reality; and no one else is. Only I can see the world through the lens of my eyes”. So, with that in mind I Strive for 3- 4 exercises weekly, eat clean (which I admit is a lot of struggle) and stay healthy.
It always humbles me whenever I hear stories of people like Nick Vujicic who without having the usual bodies we are blessed with, go on to become inspirations to thousands of people around the world. How can a man born without limbs live life with so much juice! Would he simply embrace his limitations and move on? Perhaps. Or maybe he merely interprets his life quite differently.
It is time to move away from the media’s stereotypical view of beauty and begin to appreciate who you are. No need to feel pressured to stay thin or use those beauty products that ironically make you ugly, you are just enough and you have got all it takes to thrive and be happy. Never forget that!
Nice one Tobi
